Martin Junginger is head of the group Energy & Resources of the Copernicus Institute, and leading the biobased economy research cluster, Martin's work encompasses various types of assessment of biobased economy systems, including biomass potentials and resource assessments in both developed and developing countries, sustainability assessment of biomass production for energy and materials (including GHG emissions and other environmental impacts), trade flows analysis, optimization of biomass logistic chains and conversion routes, and policy evaluation. Recent research interests include amongst others the use of lignin in asphalt to substitute bitumen, the use of marine biofuels, the on-the-ground implementation of sustainability frameworks for biomass, and the near-term potential of BECCS as an important negative emission technology.
