Eefje Cuppen

Eefje Cuppen is Professor of Governance of Sustainability at the Faculty of Governance & Global Affairs of Leiden University. Her research interest is in participation, conflict and co-creation in policymaking and planning for sustainability. She has expertise on design of stakeholder dialogue, public engagement and responsible innovation, all within the context of complex socio-ecological/ -technical systems. She is particularly interested in the dilemma’s and uncertainties that inevitably come with decision-making for sustainability, and how these are, and can be, dealt with in decision-making.

“The visions we have about the future tell us more about the present than the future. Visions are inherently political. Exploring the future thus requires critical assessment of, and debate on, the assumptions underlying those visions.”
