Trained as a physicist, Gert Jan Kramer worked for 27 years at Shell’s Amsterdam technology center where he held a variety of technical roles, lastly Manager Energy Futures, responsible for advice on technology-based opportunities for the energy transition. Next to his work at Shell he held parttime professorships at Eindhoven and Leiden. In 2016 he was appointed Professor of Sustainable Energy Supply Systems at Utrecht University. His research spans technology assessment, energy system modelling and the interplay between technology and societal change. He has a special interest in the Dutch energy transition and is a member of the Mission Innovation Teams for Industry and System Integration.
